RED , is the color of Blood. And its commonly associated with Danger, Passion, Sacrifice, Love, Anger, Communism and Socialism. It’s also the Color of Happiness, and it’s exactly the kind of energy you can expect from MsMoRED every time she puts her pen to the paper….
Born in San Juan Puerto Rico in 1985 as a navy brat…Government name Jennifer Caban , today a strong 27 year old Latin woman and mother of one wasn’t always with such hard exterior- However, she was raised in Brooklyn , NY for the first 14 years of her life.. These were her stomping grounds and she was sure to make a name for herself before leaving the borough and moving on to the next. Raised in a single parent household of 3, just her mother, brother and herself, Jennifer was left to fend for her (and her brother) alone most of the days as her mother worked a full time job , always and had to keep food on the table.
In this time, she would find all sorts of extracurricular activities to dabble in to occupy some of her free time, and explore her talents. Where she lived, they had a community center, boxing gym and a constant flow of events. So she entered into everything from talent shows, televised yearly, sports, singing groups, piano lessons, Dance classes, (ballet) lol , sports contests and so on.. Starting her music career had to have been the most important day of her life at 10 yrs. old. She had written a song, decided she wanted to put it out, called the studios of Terry Lewis and Jimmy jam and arranged a studio session, all she had to do was ASK her mother! After talking her into it, she recorded her first single and compilation joint with another featured artist and it was put on cd and distributed. She was at the basketball courts when the limo rolled up and dropped off a copy of her first track ever put on cd-in 1996, this was a huge deal.
Further along in her writings she went through some hardships that caused for her to be sent away to her fam in the Bronx. She was kicked out of 3 high schools for constant fighting, trouble with the law and gangbanging, till her mother had to ship her off to try a new school and experience. Being sent to the Bronx, The Home of Hip Hop was the perfect setup for her agenda at the time. That agenda having been directly how she coped with the things that she had been through, her reactions were to make examples out of people and make a name for herself, every and anywhere she stepped.
She went to Lehman HS, which is where she then began taking her music more seriously. She met a female group named Nemesis and they clicked and became a group of 3. 3 of the hottest female emcees to freestyle or write a rap, and at that time they were HOT. They battled any and every one, males and females and spent every day together there after committing to music. They were out and about had been managed by Ghost -former KGB Camp. Doing shows with artists like Ivy Queen, Cuban Link, They knew CL Smooth and many other artists we all know of today.. MsMoRed was now her name as she was known for her fiery personality, she had to have her hands on everything so she located the first studio in the throggs neck area and began recording with Producer Michelob. Additionally being introduced to producers known as Develop and Filthy, who later produced for artist Lil Wayne and other major ppl. She worked with many artists n producers just like this at the time where studios were inhouse and closets were booths. She also was modeling and being endorsed by designers such as FuBu, Triple Five Soul and a few other upcoming designers. They would design couture clothes for her to wear at every show or event she performed at for promotion and advertising.
She later branched out on her own, as so did the other members of her group and set out to try and get a record deal. Prior, MsMoRed also known asMahogany Red has rapped for a few record execs, such as Chris Lighty (RIP), P Diddy, Master P, who at one point was interested in signing her. Looking for the perfect fit and being told that her rap style was “too hard” by a few she pressed on for as much exposure as she could obtain. Doing every show, Latin Expo Events, attending Music Conferences, She later met the likes of CLK’s Cuban Link (formerly T-Squad) and began working under him, which got her name out there even more. Formerly known as Herimbone, Mahogany Red lost a huge record deal on the table due to personal quarrels with the camp. She flew solo again, got management Bleezy Ent. Who worked side by side with Aftermath Records at that time. They worked hard at getting her signed, she worked with producers such as Megahurst, Rockwilder, Scott Storch and more. However before her first great single could be shopped and put out, she had another thing on her plate that required her full on attention. She was now 3 months pregnant and had to make a decision on what she was going to do with her life, be a full time mom or do music. At the time she saw not much option to do both as she was now 22 yrs. old, living alone and with child. She chose motherhood.
At that time struggling with issues of potential homelessness, domestic violence, traumas and now new motherhood she picked up and left to the state of Fl to deliver her child and flee all the dramas. Enduring even more, as a resident states away, things seemed to get a little worse , health wise, family wise and so on, she vowed to tell her story again one day..
Now at 27 years old, MsMoRed is all grown up and looking to put both feet in motion towards getting her notoriety, name and music career back. Ms Mahogany Red can write, rap, sing, recite, perform and master anything she sets her mind too. She has a story to tell, and need to be able to be heard, for every strong Latina Woman in the world, she stands up, she writes and she speaks, for those who have no voice, for the misguided youth as she once was….
MsMoRED, eats, breathes and dreams Music, her words are all she has.. Though she is greatly educated having attended college twice for both Business and Health Information management, she has started her own business, studied and practiced Real estate and worked Wall Street for years trying to climb the corporate ladder, Mo Red is looking to be Bigger, Stronger and More successful musically – and won’t stop until she’s there! She is set to shed her past hardcore image and Re-Introduce MsMoRed, the Artist, the Woman and the Human that she always knew she could be. She represents HumanMindMuzik. She is Fire, and wont be put out.. Walk Wit Me…..
